Darvin Furniture & Mattress Announces
Enhanced Support of City of Hope

Collaboration will focus on research for cancer, diabetes,
and other life-threatening illnesses

Orland Park, Ill., February 14, 2023 — With more than 100 years of experience under its belt, Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Chicagoland's largest furniture and mattress store, has learned to carefully pick whom it chooses to call a partner. For more than 20 years, Darvin Furniture has been a constant supporter of City of Hope, one of the nation's largest cancer research and treatment organizations, and this year they will elevate their efforts with local promotions and events throughout the year.

According to Darvin Furniture President Will Harris, it is a source of great pride for the company’s employees to support City of Hope, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and one of the leading research centers for diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. "I've been aware of the amazing level of research done at City of Hope for decades, but I am especially excited this year to be a part of introducing more of Chicagoland to their incredible work," he says.

City of Hope recently completed the acquisition of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a network of oncology hospitals and outpatient care centers across the United States, expanding national access to world-class research and cancer care to patients with locations in Chicago, Atlanta and Phoenix. City of Hope now has one of the largest geographic footprints in cancer research and treatment, providing cancer patients with timely access to exceptional care, clinical trials and leading-edge innovation.

Steve and Marty Darvin, third-generation owners of Darvin Furniture, say they are thrilled to  introduce City of Hope to more people in the Chicagoland marketplace. "The work at City of Hope has always been impressive and inspirational to us," says Steve Darvin. "Marty and I have always seen Darvin as a company that truly cares about people, and City of Hope is a fitting extension of that connection we have always had to our customers and employees. They are all like family to us." The Darvins are two of the four furniture industry leaders who will be honored at this year’s signature event, The Spirit of Life® Award Dinner, which will take place April 23 during the High Point Market.

The Spirit of Life Celebration recognizes industry leaders each year for their outstanding professional and philanthropic contributions. This prestigious award is presented to individuals who exemplify the ideals and values that have guided City of Hope for more than a century, and whose professional and humanitarian accomplishments are worthy of celebration. Recipients of The Spirit of Life Award include a broad range of leaders from the world of business, entertainment, science and philanthropy.

In order for Darvin Furniture employees to hear firsthand the impact that City of Hope makes, Ted Schwartz, City of Hope patient ambassador, spoke to Darvin Furniture’s Orland Park employees about his cancer journey. “The CAR T treatment I received at City of Hope is what finally helped me conquer lymphoma after a long 16-year battle, including multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. I'm an early beneficiary of advances in this exciting immunotherapy, and I want the research to progress so more people can experience remission sooner,” Schwartz says.
